Waheeda Shah the perfect role model for Pakistani women

Syeda Waheeda Shah

Today is international women day and it is also a day when Pakistan People Party will have a shutter down strike in Tandu Adam, Sindh. There is a lot of talk about perfect role model for Pakistani women and I believe Waheeda Shah is the strongest candidate for that. I am aware that majority of the people in Pakistan are unhappy over the way a aspirant MPA Syeda Waheeda Shah’s case is going on in Pakistan. Waheeda Shah is the best product of this system, which in turn is coming back to it in terrible way. The feudal society this country has shunned on paper for so long never vanished. It still haunts the Pakistani society time and again because the country is embroiled in a war at all fronts. The worst part of this whole episode is that the candidate was from PPP and the ruling party has not came all out to condemn this action. On the other hand the party is hard at saving its elected MPA and the seat that it has gained through the beleaguered candidate. The video and the after math points to two core issues this society is battling with, hypocrisy and denialism.

Scream bloody murder on the Genocide of Ahmadis in Pakistan

lahoreAttacksBurials

Genocide is a very strong word to use. It is important that all the condition attached with this word is justified to apply it. In Pakistan killings of Shiite and Ahmadis by unidentified people is going on. Also there is increased number of blasphemy cases registered against Ahmadis specially. Within the span of a month more than three cases were registered In November last year. When I went down to the core of it I realised it is not just as simple as it seems from surface. At the same time I recalled how I came to know what “genocide” meant actually. I felt it was the time when I should use this word about the killing of Ahmadis. Part of learning this word and its implication was the idea that sometime this sound might be ignored, it might be suppressed but when the right time comes the voice is heard and remembered.

I think I have come to a point where I want to “scream bloody murder” and I want to make sure that it reaches the levels where it should be heard by those who are still sleeping or deaf. I believe there is a “systematic genocide” being carried out in Pakistan against Ahmadis and Shiites. Why I decided to say it now specially when the country seems to be driven back to the good old days of Jihadi mullahs ranting on taxpayers’ money. I was talking to an Ahmadi official today who told me about a recent attack on one of their community members. This particular community member is a lawyer and the attack when it happened was a time when he daily goes to office. He takes his security very seriously but how much a single person could do? It is the same point, which takes me back to the brief comments the head of Ahmadiyya Community in Pakistan Mirza Khursheed Ahmad made when a stupid journalist asked him idiotic questions. Here is what he said:

This one with a clear voice but in Urdu

This one with English subtitles

I think after reading countless news reports of murders and killings you might think I am still crazy to write this. Quite contrary to that I take full responsibility of screaming about this, as I believe that all the other channels of reporting the right situation have expired. Pakistani Ahmadis are left to the butchers to face the worst. Shiites have Iran to look for solace, Christians have Western powers who up their ante if matters cross a line. Pakistani Ahmadis have no such support or rather all those who claim to be the holders of human rights are accomplices in this vicious game of death. They keep silent on all this or just resort to issue brief statements.

Is Democracy the right legacy of Benazir Bhutto?

Benazir Bhutto a woman deprived of her destiny by people she lead

Pakistan Peoples’ Party was the first party in Pakistan that was created with the ideals of “Islam is our faith, democracy is our policy, socialism is our economy”. It is the only party that boasts support in all the five provinces of the country. Ironically the party has been under the grips of certain few who managed to keep the reins of the party in their hands depriving the once thriving support base of having an active say in the matters of the party. The founder of the party even called his supporters piglets and told them to go to hell (undoubtedly he was drunk while he was ranting this).

Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Calling People Piglets, telling them to go to hell

I would like to share my thoughts on the legacy of Benazir Bhutto the leader of the party for a very long time that lost her life to those who once she and her father created. You can curse me as much as you like but you cannot take this away that Bhuttos created this monster or laid the foundations of it. Benazir was a hope for many like me when she came, she was an icon someone to look up to. We loved her arrivals in Lahore though we were very young and then sat late at nights to watch her speeches and rallies. The first election was a festival for us as we sat throughout the night with pencils and papers in hands writing down each seat gain on it. By the morning we had a picture of how the parliament would look like.

Pakistan Peoples Party Democracy Liberalism and Gumashte

The different faces of same force.

The fight between Establishment and PPP government of Asif Ali Zardari plus Yousuf Raza Gillani intensifying, and I cannot help but once again feel Pakistan Peoples’ Party is throwing Pakistani people under the train of emotions and sympathy. I believe that the talk of supporting PPP government and attaching it to the survival of Democracy in Pakistan is absolute non-sense and is only said by people who I call closeted PPP supporters. You would not be surprised to know that during my experience with Pakistani media I found many of them. There are open Jama’at Islami supporters and there are closeted PPP supporters who run wildly whenever there is something said against their government under the pretext of democracy. They would remain silent when others are in danger. Let me also clarify here that I have immense respect for Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and his daughter Benazir Bhutto because of what they did for Pakistan. I also have huge reservations and strong emotions against them for doing so many wrong things and for being hypocrites and deceiving Pakistanis time and again.

Most of the time I get on to this debate with many of my seniors on twitter and most of the time we end at a bitter note. I believe this is the problem with most of the left in Pakistan as well as with liberals. I don’t try to put any tag on myself as I find it quite disgusting to identify individuals with left right or liberals and conservatives. I disagree on few fundamental points with many in Pakistani left. I will address the issue of liberalism and PPP in another article, for the time being I am going to address the point about PPP & democracy.

Another Blasphemy case another innocent victim in Pakistan

I wonder what is this? Not blasphemy?

The last few weeks have been sort of a shock for me when I realised a lot of things many Pakistanis take for granted are not actually available for everyone. There are more than 434 Ahmadis who have been arrested and are under various cases for “posing as Muslim”. I said what posing as what? Is it somewhat like posing for a photo shoot? Or posing likes Veena Malik for ISI shoot? When the initial anger and frustration slowed me down I realised that I am a Pakistani and then the reality started sinking in. The most shocking reality of all was that what sort of gimmick and joke these mullahs have made the religion of Islam. The religion is dumped in a vee corner of the society and it is only visible when you read an official website or reference where the word Islamic is used. Beyond that is all joke, nonsense and utter disgust and all too on the name of Islam.

Sajeel Ahmed is another addition to 298 Ahmadi victims of Blasphemy in Pakistan.

Sajeel Ahmed is another addition to 298 Ahmadi victims of Blasphemy in Pakistan.

Today a 16-year-old boy Sajeel Ahmed, who is a student of matriculation has been formally charged with PPP 295-C, now those of you don’t understand this constitutional jargon this is our very beloved and very dear blasphemy law. The same law that pushed Asia bibi into jail and the same law that took Salman Taseer shaheed’s life. Sajeel Ahmad is not the first victim who happens to be Ahmadi there are 298 Ahmadis who have been charged with this law that Salman Taseer called black law. Sajeel’s only crime is that he is Ahmadi and son of Hakeem Jameel of Khushab. There is evidence of alleged blasphemy and one person’s assumption is turned into this legal case where the motif is everything else but Islam and Blasphemy.

It’s the Assad family not Bashar al-Assad who rule Syria.

Bashar al-Assad

Bashar al-Assad became Syrian president after the death of his father Hafez al-Assad death in 2000. Initially there was strong internal opposition about Bashar but finally the transition went smoothly because of a very strong and closely knit family. Behind the face of presidency lies the power of a very strong and close family who run the country. The Assad’s belong to the minority Alawi community that makes around 12% of the Syrian population. The rule of Assad family continues beyond who is at the front as it is a rule of a clan, a family not the person known as Bashar al-Assad.

No matter what media says about Assad family, as it is always the tone of certain parts of media to turn its back and turn a blind eye towards positive image, and promote negativity. Hafez al-Assad was born on 6 October 1930 who later became the President of Syria for three decades. Assad became a successful ruler of Syria that faced constant turmoil and troubles. Assad consolidated power at the centre and took bold sometime vicious steps to enforce this consolidation. Syria was the scene of coups and counter coups before Assad took hold of the country. The central government was weak before him and there were groups at the helm of powers who used to operate at the behest of various powers. Assad ruled this mess with iron fists and controlled these various groups by successfully bringing them to the fold of his power of simply eliminating them.

No peace in Afghanistan as its ready to be forgotten once again.

Afghanistan and denials

Last month in Pakistan was eventful; I suppose this would be an understatement. It was beyond expectations for many who don’t watch the news lines very closely or follow the factors emerging around the news. When Admiral Mullen let the cat out of bag it was not unexpected completely for me, as I knew in hindsight that such things would come out one day or the other. As far as US Pakistan relations are concerned I think I knew it right after 9/11 that such a day would come. My nightmare started when Obama started issuing some childish pre election statements right at the beginnings, that my boss Azhar Abbas who is now heading Geo tv said should be ignored as they do not matter. It was also unimportant because in the presence of heavy weights Obama was never taken serious. When he stood at his inaugural day I knew the bad days are approaching fast.

Our time’s most iconic visionary Steve Jobs passes away.

Steve Jobs the visionary

Steve Jobs the iconic founder of Apple died last night at the age of 56. Jobs started Apple from a garage business and made it to America’s biggest company before he died. Jobs gave this world many products that revolutionised the way we think and work including iPod and iPhone. Jobs had pancreatic cancer, which he revealed in 2004 to the world. His death created a frenzy of activity over social media. People took twitter and Facebook to express their grief and sadness over this great loss. Flags were lowered at half-mast outside the Apple headquarters in Cupertino, California. All around the world fans thronged Apple stores to pay tribute in their own way to this legendary visionary who changed the world.

Apple issued a statement that noted that Steve Job’s “brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve”. The world leaders including US President Barack Obama paid rich tribute to Jobs by saying that with his death, the world had “lost a visionary” and he made the information revolution not only accessible, but intuitive and fun”

A visit to Rabwah for the finality of Prophet Muhammad SAW conference.

A very interesting perspective through lens

I attended the Khatam-e-Nabuwat conference in Rabwah for the very first time on 7th September 2011. This conference is a so called attempt to remember the biggest blunder done in the history of Pakistan by an elected prime minister who boasted big time about his liberal credentials. He stabbed the very masses who voted for him in the back by declaring them unilaterally non Muslim. Zufliqar Ali Bhutto was not at all a Mullah he never had any claims about association with Islam or religion in way that could end up in a situation like 1973. According to a book written by Ian Adamson “A man of God” a biography of Mirza Tahir Ahmed, ZA Bhutto had a very close relationship with Mirza Tahir Ahmed who was not the head of the community at that time. They used to meet often and discuss various issues of mutual interest. But ZA Bhutto taking a U turn on his friends decided to bow down to the factions that will destroy him and his family and continue to destroy to date. I wonder why PPP and its leaders fail to understand this fact to date and try to rectify it.

Jinnah “pagal ka bacha” by Hakim Ali Zardari

Hakim Ali Zardari

When I first saw this video I could not believe what I was listening to. No matter how insane and disgusting Zardari name has become I could expect anything but this. I thought there was some sort of sanity somewhere in the family and the Zardari we endure is the only one with a manufacturing fault and we could only curse our lucks for this misfortune. But hey hold your breath as the elder Zardari had some real grudge tucked away somewhere in his heart. I wonder what were the reasons for that but lets watch this disgusting piece of shit coming from the mouth of a gutter sorry father of the leader of PPP.

Hakim Ali Zardari ranting against Qaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah

If you are still struggling to cope with the filth spewing from this video let me translate it for you in English.

Hakim Ali Zardari says “I would say to the extent that Jinnah destroyed this country Pakistan right after coming (he means after partition). (someone from the audience says “RIGHT, showing he is not alone but have company of blasphemers with him) I mean you brought cabinet from India, after giving one or two ministers to five provinces you brought the rest from India. You brought bureaucracy from India, the language Urdu you are speaking you brought it form India. And he (Mr. Jinnah) goes to Bengal and says to Bengalis that your national language is Urdu. (the anchor I suppose jumps into to off load some of the shit he is carrying by saying “from that day the Bengalis became disgruntled”) Bengalis said too that fear Allah our language is so rich (I could not hear properly because the jerk was ranting along) Son of lunatic (Zardari actually called this to Qaid-e-Azam). In reality (according to Zardari) he did not knew even ABCD of this country.
